In 2003, Emeralds Camogie Club won their first ever adult title when they defeated St Lachtains of Freshford on a scoreline of 4-06 to 3-00.
On Sunday, 3rd Nov 2024, Emeralds will be hoping to bridge that twenty-one year gap when they take on John Lockes in this year’s Junior County Final. Anne Dalton was playing with Freshford that day. She was up against a few players who are now her teammates in Sundays final. The late Georgie Leahy was manager alongside Gerry Fahey, Paul Kavanagh and the late Tommy Hickey. They played in the 2014 final but were beaten by Young Irelands.
Four players who were part of the 2003 team will be involved in the panel for Sunday’s game. Laura Kavanagh, Paul’s daughter will be lining out alongside Siobhan O’Hara (Goalie) who had a great game that day by all accounts. She will captain the side in this year’s final. Clodagh Cleere was also involved and will be again on Sunday. Sheila Doyle (Walsh) was seemingly on fire that day with two goals!! She was known to be a dangerous forward in her day!! She is part of the management team. Lorraine Peters who was full back in that final was expecting her daughter Saoirse. She still played !!! Saoirse has followed in her mothers footsteps by playing in the backs.
Talking to people during the week and they recalled a lot of memories of that great day. This weekend is a big one. This group of players will give it absolutely everything they have to try bring the cup back to the parish for the first time since 2003.
The very best of luck
